| Making Money Online During A Recession |

It is time that we attack an issue that may be on the minds of many. And that is making money online during a recession. Is this really a good time to dwell into money making opportunities for the newbie? I will try and answer this question in this article.
In case your wondering who I am and how I know anything, let me give you a very brief, but thorough background on myself. My name is Michael Homan. I started online as a individual wanting to sell their acrylic and oil paintings. In the background I was working on learning graphic design in which I still do today.
To make a long story short, I eventually gotten into Multi-level Marketing. At that time I was still new to things like Internet advertising and marketing. I started to follow a marketing guru that was in the business of selling health products. This guy had a bunch of marketing courses, notebook binder, cassette tapes, and video. The company made this guy look like a genius.
I guess anyone with a business, that had a individual making them the kind of money he was, getting them all sorts of publicity, he would be like a genius. The trouble was, he was made to look like a genius that was going to teach his downline members all his secrets. So, like any naive newbie, I started buying his stuff.
Another trick of the trade, one similar to that used by some denominations of the Christian Faith (I will explain in a few moments), was his suggestion on reading books that stress positive thinking. This all lead up to the part were he would tell members to not think negative, to go for it, risk it all! What this was for, a means to reinforce the mind to go against its own logical thinking when starting to spend loads of money on advertising and marketing that they guru suggested. It was to limit the resistance.
Most of us have, what is referred to, as a little voice in our head that sometimes comes out and says..."Wait a minute! Something does not look right!" Now I have seen where even science wants to salience this little voice, claiming that you may be Schizophrenic. It seems everyone wants to suppress our intuition, our inner voice that tells us right from wrong.
Now to further explain what I meant a few paragraphs back when I said, "Another trick of the trade, one similar to that used by some denominations of the Christian Faith". I have seen this tactic used in a few Christian Branches. They tell their congregation, or rather brainwash them with a statement that they need to stay closed minded. And that anyone who tried to get them to question their faith or belief is only working with the devil to deceive them or try and divert them from their path.
It should be obvious what this is for. As per my statement on the marketing guru's tactic, this is very similar. This is a seed implanted into the subconscious mind by repition. Its purpose is in planting a thought that anyone who tries to get the religious member to think about what they believe, or about anything outside of it is wrong or evil. This in turn stops logical reasoning, or any type of resistance on the side of the follower.
Okay... back to making money online.
To finish my background, I ran up a debt of roughly $8,000 on my two or three credit cards. I did this believing that nothing could stop me it I only believed it hard enough and worked my ass off all my spare time. In the end, I lost. I not only failed at my business, I lost over $8,000 with interest. It took me about two years to pay it off and get out of debt.
You may be thinking... well, one try at it, I heard it might take multiple times of failing... haven't you read some of those success stories, how they failed several times before becoming a success?
After my failure, it was a while but I did slowly start back into affiliate and MLM programs. That was years ago. I never ran up my debt again because I gotten rid of all of my credit cards and stop listening to guru's. The point is, I have experience and have lots to tell about it.
Moving on now past my background... you may be starting to look to the Internet as a means to make money because of the economy. But I want to stress that multi-level marketing is one of the biggest and best ways to lose your money. So if that is what you are thinking, I feel bad for you.
Here are a few things to think about...
If you need money, MLM and starting a business takes money. If you don't have much, then you know the end to this story.
If the economy is bad and most people are holding back from spending, you better be able to figure out where people might spend their money and on what.
If you lack experience in advertising and marketing, it may be a little late to learn once you no longer have the means and time to learn it, meaning if you need money right now.
You can go off and read those very convincing sales pages (web sites) of MLM and join for all I care. But in the end you will care when you lose what money you have left.
There are thousands of people who were already in MLM and they could not make a living, what makes you think you can do it? And this is not about thinking you can do, but looking at the facts and reality.
Here is the scenario... a person runs across a MLM web site that seems to be just the best thing one could ever hope for, it has products or services that are better than average that everyone wants, the company pays that well they all members go off to become millionaire's... a story book life.
With the momentum built and the excitement, the individual is looking for the sign up button. And some time at that point the person will wonder what is this going to cost me? After they look a little harder they see that it is only going to cost them a small monthly fee for a few autoship products or something.
What they do not tell the new member is that those where the first cost, there is a larger part of the business story they failed to mention. And that is, advertising and marketing. Sure you have a web site that has products on it, and you can get a cut or commission from any sold from there, but how will you let people know it is there? There is a misconception that just having a web site, people will find it... not true!
So the next part of the scenario would be, that the newbie would have to figure out how to generate web traffic to their new web site. Not realizing the complexity or the fact that just one means of advertising will probably not make much different, and that it might take many forms, they start with an e-book. If they are lucky, they may hit a well written e-book that related to today on generating web traffic.
But what information might the web traffic e-book include? Well, we have Adsense, article marketing, auto responders, banners, blogs classifieds, e-books, e-zines, message boards, newsletters, podcast, search engines, social bookmarking, social networks, Squidoo, video marketing, viral marketing, yahoo answers, and so on. But besides a short description of each of the methods, the newbie will see that if they want a better understanding of each of these method they need to find e-book or information on just one topic.
While the newbie is trying to figure out how to advertise their new business, they are also having a very irritating thought keep emerging... I am spending money on products each month, I am losing money while I am trying to figure out how to make money. But some how another thought seems to push that out, pushing it way to the back again. The newer voice says, "You can't make money if you don't spend money", or something that else that sets the mind at ease.
Without dragging this on any further, I believe most people would get the point. If not, I am saying MLM is a bad choice in times when things are not good. If you have the money and think you can do, it is up to you to go for it no matter what anyone says.
All I am trying to do is to protect a few people from losing all their money. If anything, try a few affiliate programs that do not require any form of cost. Research keywords online on a search engine to find what is selling the most. It should be needed or wanted things. Start your advertising in traffic exchanges if that is all you can do, but do not expect to make much nor become rich.
You can join a program like ClickBank or ShareIt and sign up for multiple affiliate programs that you shift around according to the market. Just make sure you can be flexible. If you liked this artilce, please see my web site for more.
I have been in Internet Marketing for several years, both in Affiliate Marketing and MLM. After lots of failure I turned to my own talents in graphic design and started my own business. Visit HomansDarkArt.com for samples and quotes on graphic design. |
